9. UKG CLOCKING FOR ER24 MHR STAFF

During May and June 2025, relevant ER24 branches will start implementing clocking arrangements to record and approve hours on UKG. Your branch manager will guide you through this process. Once your branch manager has implemented clocking arrangements at your branch, please ensure that you clock in when your shift starts and clock out when your shift ends. This will help ensure that your hours are approved promptly and that you receive your payment on time. MHR has developed a dedicated webpage, ER24 UKG Clocking - MHR, that provides detailed information about ER24 clocking for MHR agency staff.

10. PATIENT SAFETY ALWAYS COME FIRST – EXCEEDING HOURS NOTICE

Patient safety is our top priority. Fatigue can lead to incidents that may harm patients. Therefore, MHR urges you not to work double shifts or exceed the hours specified in the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (Act No. 75 of 1997):

  • MHR Employees: 230 hours/month
  • Moonlighters: 48 hours/month

Remember to notify MHR if you are no longer a Moonlighter (permanently employed elsewhere) OR have become a permanent employee.

Thank you for your commitment to patient safety and ensuring you do not exceed the allowable hours.

11. BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) COMPETENCY IS IMPORTANT

All locum Emergency Centre doctors, as well as temporary nursing and clinical ER24 panel members, must be competent in Basic Life Support (BLS). Please ensure that you complete BLS training, which is offered at a minimal cost of R350. You can contact your nearest MHR Office, MHR Coordinator or MHR Clinical Facilitator for more information.

If you have completed BLS training, please email your certificate to the MHR Admin team. Refer to section 7 for the email addresses of the regional admin offices.

12. ATTEND SCHEDULED BLS CLASSES

We are committed to addressing the training needs of panel members at our national locations. As previously mentioned, Basic Life Support (BLS) competency is essential. Therefore, we encourage all panel members to attend the scheduled BLS classes after confirming your attendance. Our instructors dedicate their time to leading these classes and preparing the necessary training materials.

If you are unable to attend the training, make sure to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. Please note that if you fail to attend without cancelling in advance, a cancellation fee of R350 will be charged.

13. CLIENTS REQUIRE MHR PANEL MEMBERS TO WEAR UNIFORMS

MHR Navy Samuel Top (Unisex)
MHR Navy Emery Top (Ladies)

MHR clients urge all admin and clinical MHR panel members to wear MHR or client-specific uniforms. If you do not have an MHR uniform, please visit your nearest MHR office to place an order. See the images for examples.

ER24 events panel members should visit their nearest ER24 branch to order uniforms.

For further details, please refer to our ‘Policies and Documents’ web page, where you can find our ‘Dress code’ policies and uniform documents for clinical and administrative panel members.

14. INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (IPC) MEASURES RELATED TO UNIFORMS

It is important to note that jerseys and fleece tops are not allowed when working with patients to ensure infection prevention and control. Additionally, your arms must remain uncovered below the elbow.

Thank you for prioritising patient safety by following these guidelines.

15. MHR NAME BADGE - YOUR 'IDENTITY' TO SUCCESS

Please remember to wear your name badge while on duty, as it is the patient’s right to identify all personnel working in healthcare facilities. This will also make it easier for patients to compliment your service in their client service survey. If you do not have a name badge, please reach out to your nearest MHR office to place an order.

Thank you for valuing patients’ rights by wearing your MHR name badge while on duty.

16. ALWAYS WORK WITHIN YOUR SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Panel members should refrain from taking on tasks that are beyond their scope of practice. If a client asks you to perform a task that is not within your scope of practice, you have the right to decline, provided you give a valid reason for your decision. Please notify the MHR Regional Manager if you are approached to work outside your scope so that we can address the issue with the client.

17. ACKNOWLEDGE EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

It is always a pleasure to recognise the hard work and accomplishments of our personnel (panel members) and teams within our organisation.
